During the Seattle City Council’s debate Monday over the paid-sick leave, which members approved 8-1, one council member suggested it wasn’t perfect legislation. Another responded that the City Council had likely never passed a piece of perfect legislation.
When it came Councilmember Jean Godden’s turn to speak, she corrected her colleagues.
“Once there was a piece of perfect legislation passed, not by the City Council but by the state of Washington, when they gave women the vote.”
The standing-room only crowd of mostly progressive social-justice advocates burst into applause.
